ABOUT ME

My passion for architectural furniture and design began, back in the day, when I was an apprentice to A. L. Johansen & Son in Kolding, This was called the "Illums Bolighus" for the provinces, where you could buy furniture by Hans J. Wegner, Børge Mogensen, Poul Kjærholm alongside many others and it was where I started to learn about wood, fabric and leather.

Other influences followed. Skanbo in Lübeck, Germany, came as surprise - not the country or the people but the furniture, Teak, good design but missing the lightness of Ditzel. However the designs of Dyrlund, Aksel Kjærsgaard, and Brdr. Juul Kristensen were superb. Scandinavian furniture made of teak, pine, ash and oak further extended my horizons.

Back in Denmark, I worked for Illums Bolighus on Amagertorv, Copenhagen. Every day I was in the company of designs by the likes of Arne Jacobsen, Panton and Wanscher. IBH is, and will always be, my favourite design department store with its unique history and atmosphere. Truly one of a kind.

Germany once again beckoned. Agentur Möbex in Diez a. d. Lahn, founded by the opera singer Peter Biehl, distributed Danish designer furniture (Erik Jørgensen, K.P.Jørgensen, Montana and others) in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Returning home, I worked for Classic 50/60 in Holte. It was then I really started to be immersed in all things Danish design. Erling Østergaard who owns the shop, was and still is a walking encyclopedia of Danish designers. My knowledge was reinforced by weekly strolls to Fritz Hansen in Allerød, the PP Møbler workshop, and to Niels Roth Andersen, which had also taken over the production of Finn Juhl's designs.

I met Hans J. Wegner on many occasions at PP Møbler and was involved in the process of restarting production of the "Bear Chair" PP19. There were many visits to Wegner's home for a cup of tea and chats about furniture.

After 20 years in the world of furniture, there was a change of direction as I moved into the business of transporting furniture, art and antiques. This involved regular contact with auction houses around Europe, including Bruun Rasmussen, Bukowskis and Lauritz. At least I was still surrounded by beautiful things!

And now, I have returned to my true love, establishing Ox Chairs and More - buying, restoring and selling good quality furniture.

Welcome.

Best regards
